Kate Garraway's Husband, Derek Draper, In Intensive Care Due To COVID-19
The coronavirus continues to spread among the ranks of the entertainment industry, with the husband of television presenter Kate Garroway, Derek Draper, now included in the list.
According to the Standard, her husband is being treated for COVID-19 and remains in the intensive care unit. Garroway says that her husband remains “very ill.” All of this was shared by Garroway through a letter read on “Good Morning Britain” by her co-presenter, Ben Shephard.
Garroway only had praise for the United Kingdom’s National Health Service, whom she says have been extraordinary, professional, dedicated, and brave. She says she found it difficult to properly convey her gratitude to the health workers as thank you alone seems inadequate. Garroway also said thank you to her supporters who have been sending encouraging messages.
Hello! reports that Garroway herself has displayed mild symptoms of COVID-19 and has had to strictly self-isolate in her home along with her children.
The outlet also pointed out Garroway’s empathy for all the other people who are also battling with the coronavirus or have family and friends who are dealing with it. Just like other people who have shown support for her, she shared her own message of love and support for the medical frontliners.
Previously, she had shared a video on Instagram of her neighborhood shooting fireworks and making noise as part of the United Kingdom’s show of appreciation for the healthcare workers, dubbed #Clapforcarers.
Aside from Draper, other entertainment industry professionals who have tested positive for COVID-19 include actors Idris Elba, Rita Wilson, Kristofer Hivju, Tom Hanks, Ali Wentworth, and Olga Kurylenko; iconic singer Marianne Faithfull, television host Andy Cohen, reality star Todd Chrisley, and CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.
Celebrity deaths that have been caused by the coronavirus include John Prine, celebrity chef Floyd Cardoz, stage star Mark Blum, actor and dialect coach Andrew Jack, and British comedian Eddie Large.
The World Health Organization, in its COVID-19 situation report for Apr. 10, says that the confirmed coronavirus cases in the world are now at 1,521,252 people. The number of COVID-19 fatalities is at 92,798 people.
