Mariah Carey Sits Down With Oprah To Talk About New Book
Mariah Carey has been the center of a lot of news stories over the years, but now the elusive chanteuse is the one telling her story in a new book. The singer recently sat down with Oprah to talk about the contents of the book.
CNN reports that the interview was for the Apple TV series The Oprah Conversation: Mariah Carey that is set to air on Sept. 29. The 50-year-old singer is set to talk about her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey and tidbits about her relationships, growing up biracial, and other parts of her life.
For instance, Carey shared about her relationship with former baseball player Derek Jeter and how it helped her get out of her abusive relationship with American music executive Tommy Motola. She called him a “catalyst” since he made her feel like there was another person out there for her.
Billboard, who received an exclusive clip from the show, says Carey also talked about how she came to the decision to share the things she did in the book. According to the singer, while she did feel some fear sharing some of the things she did, it was not because she was afraid of what they would think.
Carey says that the fear she felt came from the fact that she had never really spoken about anyone before. In her own words, she says it has always been other people to draw “first blood.” She also emphasized that she has always tried to be fair in her life.
The Billboard clip also has Carey talking about how people in her life have been treating her like “an ATM machine with a wig on.” According to her, some people in her life have not cared about her so long as they could get money from her “no matter what.”
The singer has certainly tried to be fair when talking about other people, such as when her interview with Ellen DeGeneres was recently brought up. The interview involved Carey being forced to admit that she was pregnant.
Carey described the interview as “uncomfortable,” especially since the pregnancy eventually ended in a miscarriage. She said that it was difficult to overcome the aftermath of the interview with Ellen DeGeneres, and while she did not want to kick the host while she was down, she said she could not call the interview a pleasant memory.
She also called out DeGeneres for not showing some empathy during the interview, stating that she felt like there was nothing she could do in the moment to avoid the situation.
