Over the past few weeks, Ellen DeGeneres and The Ellen DeGeneres Show have had its share of celebrity supporters and detractors either defending or calling out the show and its host for misbehavior. The latest A-list name to join the fray is diva Mariah Carey.

In an interview with Vulture, the 50-year-old singer talked about the resurfaced video of her interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where she was made to admit to being pregnant. Carey described the interview as “extremely uncomfortable,” especially since that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage.

Carey said that handling the aftermath of that interview was difficult for her and clarified that while she did not want to look like she was taking a shot at DeGeneres while she’s down, she would not consider the interview a pleasant memory.

Buzzfeed also quotes Mariah as saying that DeGeneres could have displayed some empathy during that situation, but at the moment she felt like there was nothing else she could do to avoid it.

The recounting of this episode comes after Buzzfeed’s investigation on alleged toxic workplace behavior on The Ellen DeGeneres Show resulted in WarnerMedia launching an internal investigation to determine the veracity of the allegations of racism, sexual harassment, and toxicity lobbed at the show.

Past and present staffers of the show have claimed that they have suffered racism and sexual harassment from some of the show’s senior producers. They also claim that they have been refused leaves to take care of their mental health as well as to attend funerals.

The scandal grew big enough to warrant the firing of three senior producers of the show as well as DeGeneres herself writing a letter to staffers claiming responsibility for what went wrong and promising to do better moving forward.

One of the show’s executive producers, Andy Lassner, admitted in an Instagram video that the last few months have been “rough”, prompting him to take a break from social media as he and the production dealt with the unearthed scandals.

Aside from Carey, other celebrities that have spoken out against DeGeneres and her behavior include Everybody Loves Raymond star Brad Garrett and Back to the Future star Lea Thompson. Garrett claimed that the toxicity in the show stems from her DeGeneres herself, with Thompson agreeing.

DeGeneres isn’t the only person that has been called out by celebrities for alleged rude behavior. Justice League actor Ray Fisher accused his director, Joss Whedon, of on-set behavior that he described as unprofessional, abusive, and gross.

MacGyver star Lucas Till also called out his former showrunner Peter Lenkov, claiming that he was almost driven to suicide by continued verbal abuse, bullying, and body-shaming.
