Beliebers will have to wait a little longer to see Justin Bieber as the award-winning singer has had to postpone his 2020 Changes tour because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Variety ran the statement announcing the postponement, which cited the “current public health crisis” as the reason for the postponement.

The statement also said that while Bieber and his crew have been working hard to come up with an amazing show, the fans’ health and well-being was more important and that Bieber would be back as soon as there is a safe space to perform. The statement did not have any information on when the new dates for the tour would be.

The tour was supposed to begin on May 14 in Seattle and then proceed to 44 more dates. This would also have been Bieber’s first tour in nearly three years.

Understandably, fans are upset. Billboard collected a number of reactions that ranged from heartbroken to impressed at Bieber’s concern for his fans.

For instance, one fan tweeted that they were “literally heartbroken” at not being able to see Bieber in July. Another bemoaned the postponement as she had apparently been waiting for the opportunity since she was in second grade. One threatened that she would riot if she would be unable to see Bieber, but only in her home “because of the stay at home order.” Another said that Bieber has always put special importance on the well-being and health of his fans.

The postponed Changes tour is only the latest one caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The entire North American leg of BTS’s Map of the Soul tour has also been postponed, with no new dates announced. Coachella, the yearly music festival, has also moved to October. It was supposed to take place in April before the spread of the coronavirus changed everything.

Other events that ended up being postponed or canceled include the Met Gala, the UEFA Champions League, and the Cannes Film Festival.

As disappointing as it is for Beliebers, the tour postponement is most probably good news as the number of coronavirus infections in the United States do not appear to be going down anytime soon. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States are now at 186,101. There are now 3,603 dead because of the virus.

Globally, the World Health Organization says there are now 823,626 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The organization also says that there are now 40,598 dead because of COVID-19.
