With cases of COVID-19 not likely to come down anytime soon, governments and health departments around the world have continuously emphasized the importance of social distancing. Because of this coronavirus policy, events all over America and the world have either been postponed or canceled.

Here is a shortlist of some of the events that have either been canceled or postponed because of COVID-19:

1. Coachella

Coachella is one of the biggest musical events of the year, with it originally scheduled to be held in April. However, the coronavirus situation in the United States has made it impossible for them to hold it during their usual dates. According to USA Today, the music festival will now be held from Oct. 9 to Oct. 11 and Oct. 16 to Oct. 18.

2. BTS’s Map of the Soul tour

The pop superstars have already had to cancel four Seoul dates because of the COVID-19 situation in South Korea and, now, Variety reports that schedule changes are likely to happen to other dates on the tour. Quoting an announcement made by BTS’s agency, Big Hit Entertainment, Variety says national or local regulations will determine any new postponements or cancelations regarding the tour.

3. The Met Gala

Best known for its over-the-top fashions and the celebrities who wear them, the Met Gala is an event most fashion lovers wait for eagerly every year. However, there will be no Met Gala this year, with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour praising the “unavoidable and responsible decision” made by the Metropolitan Museum of Art to shut its doors. Wintour has not yet announced the new dates for the Met Gala.

4. The UEFA Champions League

The latest situation report from the World Health Organization puts the number of infected in the European Region at 195,511, with 10,189 dead. With such dire numbers, it is no surprise that UEFA has suspended the Champions League, which draws tens of thousands of people from all over Europe. ESPN calls the suspension “unprecedented.”

5. The Cannes Film Festival

Reuters reports that the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival have decided to postpone the festival, which would have been held on May 12 to May 23 this year. Rather than host celebrities, Cannes’ iconic Palais des Festivals is now being used to house the town’s homeless to help stem the rise of COVID-19 infections. There are still no new dates for when the festival will be held, with organizers set to announce new details on April 15.
