BTS's Agency Takes Legal Action Against Malicious Commenters
BTS's agency, Big Hit Entertainment, has come out strong against online commenters speaking ill of the pop superstars.
Soompi reports that the entertainment agency put out a statement on the Weverse app updating BTS fans -- known collectively as ARMY -- about the state of the legal proceeding they started December of last year.
The statement first reiterated that the agency continuously pursues legal actions against commenters who commit slander, personal attacks, and sexual harassment against the members of BTS.
According to the statement, Big Hit Entertainment has already gotten in touch with the relevant investigative agencies and provided them with fan-submitted evidence as well as evidence collected through their own efforts. The agency said that the identities of some of the commenters have already been discovered and investigations are being pursued against them.
Punishments and fines have also been given to some of the commenters, with some of them even appointing attorneys to apologize for them and seek a settlement with the entertainment agency. This is where Big Hit Entertainment stuck its heels in, declaring in the statement that they will not settle with the commenters or be lenient under any circumstance.
Legal action against malicious online commenters is something that Big Hit Entertainment regularly engages in. As reported by Koreaboo, the entertainment company was already pursuing legal proceedings even back then in Aug. of last year.
In that statement -- also released on Weverse -- the company said they would display “zero tolerance” when it came to the matter of dealing with these malicious commenters.
BTS just recently participated in “Homefest: James Corden’s Late Late Show Special,” which is one of the two TV benefits aired in the past few days in an effort to help people deal with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Other artists that participated in the James Corden special include Dua Lipa, John Legend, Andrea Bocelli, and Billie Eilish.
The North American leg of BTS’s Map of the Soul tour was also postponed due to the rising cases of coronavirus infections in the United States, with Big Hit saying these dates will be rescheduled. Other events that have been canceled due to the global pandemic include Coachella, the Met Gala, the UEFA Champions League, and the Cannes Film Festival.
Of these five canceled events, only Coachella has come out with new dates. The music festival will be held over two weekends -- Oct. 9 to 11 and Oct. 16 to 18. It was originally slated to be held on April.
