Ben Affleck recently made some shocking comments about his marriage to Jennifer Garner, and fans are not thrilled.

On Tuesday, Affleck sat down for an interview with Howard Stern where he talked about his failed marriage, as well as his addiction. The dad of three said that he thinks he would still be drinking if and Garner were still together.

“We had a marriage that didn’t work. This happens. It was somebody I love and respect but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer... what I did was [I] drank a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution,” Affleck said via Vanity Fair.

Affleck added that if his marriage to Garner continued, he would still feel trapped and would therefore resort to drinking nonstop. His words were in stark contrast to his previous statements about the actress, according to The Independent. 

Months ago, Affleck credited Garner for his sobriety. He also praised his ex-wife for being a good mother to their children.

Shortly after Affleck’s interview aired, several people slammed him for his comments and called him insensitive. Others felt that he threw Garner out of the bus even though the actress also struggled while she was with him.

However, there are also some people that understood what Affleck was saying. They believe that it wasn’t the actor’s intention to hurt Garner. Instead, he simply meant that he felt trapped and so he resorted to drinking alcohol.

The timing of Affleck’s comments did not sit well with his critics either. After all, he was just spotted with his girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez at the Tender Bar premiere earlier this week.

Eagle-eyed netizens noticed how loved up the couple looked. So, they are convinced that Affleck’s comments would hurt Garner even more because she has been replaced in her ex-husband’s life.

Last weekend, Affleck and Garner were also photographed seemingly arguing while out in public. Photos of the exes show Affleck with his arms stretched outward while looking down on his ex-wife.

Garner looks timid in the photos, but she’s definitely not scared of Affleck.

As of late, there’s no proof that Garner and Affleck have been having problems. And it’s unlikely for them to have any more issues because they are no longer together.

The exes have also moved on from each other. And even Garner is now dating John Miller.
