Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek looked like they were best friends when they promoted their latest movie, The Eternals. However, a source claimed that the A-listers’ relationship is anything but.

In its Dec. 13 issue, Globe claimed that behind closed doors, there was obvious tension between Jolie and Hayek. After all, the mom of six is jealous of her co-star’s popularity.

“Salma has more star power and she’s got 20 million Instagram followers, almost twice as many as Angie,” the source said.

The insider also claimed that Jolie is aware that the casting directors had Hayek in mind when they were casting the role of Ajak. But Jolie secretly wanted to play the role of Ajak because the character had more screentime.

To make things worse, Kaz Fripo, who wrote the screenplay for The Eternals said that Jolie never crossed their mind for the movie. But the actress phoned him to ask if she could be part of the project.

Jolie plays the role of Thena in The Eternals, who is described as an elite warrior. But the actress is far from her real-life persona because she’s accused of terrorizing her ex-husband, Brad Pitt over their ongoing custody battle.

At one point, Jolie also pushed Hayek’s face into a dessert and this allegedly sparked more concerns over their real relationship. However, it is important to note that this is part of a Mexican tradition called “the payoff.”

“Salma tried to laugh the whole thing off. But I think even Salma was shocked by how forceful Angie was. It just shows how green-eyed Angie’s become of Salma’s success,” the source said.

However, one should take the tabloid’s claims with a grain of salt.

There is no indication that Jolie is upset with Hayek because of the latter’s popularity. There is also no denying the fact that Jolie is just as popular if not even more popular than Hayek.

But Pitt’s ex-wife has fewer followers on Instagram because she just created her account months ago.

Also, the number of followers one has on social media doesn’t equate to their popularity because there are a lot of factors that go into following an A-lister.

It’s not also true that Jolie is bitter because she wasn’t cast as Ajak. Jolie was blessed with so many other movie roles that Hayek never had the chance to do.
