Alec Baldwin Allegedly At Risk Of Relapsing Following ‘Rust’ Accidental Shooting
Alec Baldwin could allegedly suffer a relapse following the accidental shooting on the set of Rust last month.
In its Nov. 22 issue, Globe claimed that Baldwin is emotionally stressed following the incident. The actor previously confessed to being a heavy drinker until he decided to quit drinking for good in 1985.
However, an addiction expert said that it’s only a matter of time before Baldwin goes back to his old ways and starts drinking again.
“You have to realize you’re never completely healed. You’re only managing your addiction and how you manage it is by admitting that you can’t handle a drink, can’t handle being in a bar surrounded by liquor when you’re under incredible stress. Otherwise, it could be years later and you’ll pick it up right where you left off,” the source said.
Another source said that Baldwin is going through post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD for accidentally killing Halyna Hutchins. And if he’s diagnosed with PTSD, it’s highly likely for the actor to have nightmares and flashbacks of what happened.
Dr. Holly Schiff also said that Baldwin is more susceptible to relapse now more than ever because of what happened. And even if he’s only drinking non-alcoholic beverages, for now, he can easily go back to drinking alcohol.
“Those who are recovering from alcohol addiction sometimes believe that non-alcoholic drinks are the safe way to continue to drink. But I do believe that it’s more of a behavioral crutch and a slippery slope. Although there is no alcohol in the drink, the smell and taste are enough to potentially trigger a relapse,” the source said.
While concerns about Baldwin potentially relapsing are valid, the most important thing right now is that he’s doing well. Even if the actor is struggling in private, he is most likely getting the help that he needs from experts.
It’s unlikely for Baldwin to be heading for relapse for as long as he’s getting the support that he needs from his family and friends.
It’s also important to note that what the tabloid is saying is just based on their source’s knowledge and not necessarily on Baldwin’s behavior.
Following the accident, Baldwin and his wife tried their best to live their normal lives by celebrating Halloween and going on dinner dates. However, life has not been easy for them especially after a lawsuit was filed against the actor.
