‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Release Date Still Unknown: Showrunners Update Fans What’s Happening On Set
Fans are still waiting for the arrival of Stranger Things season 4, which was already renewed by Netflix back in September 2019. Until now, there is no definite date on when the sci-fi horror drama is coming back on the streaming platform. The good news is that showrunners/brothers Matt and Ross Duffer shared an update on what’s happening behind the scenes.
The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the major reasons why the production of Stranger Things season 4 took longer than usual. The third installment premiered in 2019, and that only means the series has been off-air for more than a year. The original release schedule was set in early 2021, but it wasn’t followed since the global health crisis halted the filming of most shows in 2020.
Series star Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, previously shared that the fourth outing may not be arriving until 2022. Netflix is also tight-lipped in providing details about the release date of the sci-fi horror drama.
Now, the latest update on what’s happening off-cam came from the Duffer Brothers, who shared a video as part of Netflix's Geeked Week.
“We're sorry it's taking so long to get to you,” Ross addressed fans, “but everyone here is working really, really hard on this show, and we can't wait for you to see it.”
What’s noticeable in the clip is that they were on the set, indicating that work is still underway. In addition to giving updates, the brothers introduced Amybeth McNulty, who is set to play the character of Vicki, in Stranger Things season 4.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited new chapter will pick up the events that transpired in season 3, along with shocking surprises for most of the characters. The teens of Hawkins prevented the Upside Down from taking over the fictional town. However, they had to sacrifice Jim Hopper (David Harbour) during the process – and he has since believed to be dead after the climax.
But, in an unexpected turn of events, the teaser for the Stranger Things season 4 released in mid-2020 confirmed that he is still alive, albeit not in good condition. Right now, he is being held in a Russian prison and it’s yet to be seen how the group could rescue him given that most of them were separated from each other. Also, the next chapter is considered to be “darker, more mature” than the preceding seasons.
