Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt To Re-team For A Comic Book Adaptation
According to an EW report, the Jungle Cruise co-stars are all set to reunite for the impending superhero-themed movie, which is an adaption of Alé Garza and Scott Lobdell's 1999 graphic novel series bearing the same moniker. Johnson and Blunt's potential casting in the film was originally reported by Deadline.
The film will reportedly follow the book's plot about a married couple, Edgar and Mallory Bulson who are on the verge of divorce. Thanks to a mysterious meteor that gives them mammoth gifts of extraterrestrial powers that only come to fruition when they work together, their plans to throw in the towel gets postponed.
It will be interesting to find out whether or not the couple's newfangled powers can make their marriage work. The film's script is penned by Emily V. Gordon, who was nominated for an Oscar for co-writing the script for The Big Sick with Pakistani-American comedian Kumail Nanjiani in 2017.
Kevin Misher, who has worked with the retired WWE superstar on projects such as The Rundown and The Scorpion will be producing the upcoming film along with Hiram Garcia, Dany, Blunt, and Johnson. It is hardly surprising that multiple studios are already bidding for the imminent project.
Deadline suggests Netflix is most likely to emerge as the frontrunner. Representatives of the media-services provider remained mum about whether or not it is involved with Ball and Chain. Following in the footsteps of other commercially and critically successful 90s comic book adaptions such as Harley Quinn, Cable, Bloodshot, Venom and Deadpool, and many more, Ball and Chain is an adaption of 90s comic book written by Scott Lobdell.
The Hollywood Reporter describes Ball and Chain as a superhero story, which is perfectly blended with 2005's action-comedy Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The Johnson-Blunt adaptation was considered for live-action as a TV movie back in 2001.
Johnson and Blunt's first movie together Jungle Cruise was scheduled to hit theaters in Jul. 24 this year, but its release date was pushed back to Jul. 30 2021 amid the coronavirus pandemic. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, the adventure film is based on the Disney theme park of the same name.
Jungle Cruise is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, while Michael Green, Glenn Ficarra, and John Requa have written the screenplay drawing inspiration from a story by Requa and Ficarra. Aside from Johnson and Blunt, the film stars Paul Giamatti, Jesse Plemons, Jack Whitehall, and Edgar Ramirez.
