Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow, Steve Buscemi And More Celebs Helps To Raise $150K
Steve Buscemi joined hands with his celebrity friends to raise funds for Friends of Firefighters, which is a non-profit organization in New York City. The virtual event was two hours long and featured many celebs, who raised over $150K amid the ongoing pandemic.
The event featured several stars, including some of Buscemi’s former co-stars, such as Kenan Thompson, Rob Schneider, Jackie Sandler, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Colin Quinn, Kevin James, Tim Herlihy, Dan Bulla, Julie Bowen, and Judd Apatow. The celebrities had a casual conversation while they acknowledged the amazing work done by the firefighters.
The organization offers services and programs to support retired and active firefighters, including their family members. The event held on Dec. 22 shed light on firefighters' mental and physical health during difficult times.
Moreover, audiences were allowed to interact with the celebs throughout the event while discussing their upcoming projects, including the previous work they are recognized. All the celebrities answered the questions of these donors and also had some surprises.
The stream was powered by Tiltify, who is known for being the first creator of a fundraising platform. Friends of Firefighters' executive director, Nancy Carbone, opened up about the event and why the organization was launched in the first place.
Carbone explained that the non-profit was initiated following the terrorist attacks in 2011 to ensure that all firefighters' requirements and needs are served. She addressed the ongoing pandemic and said that the global crisis after 19 years had been again grueling for firefighters.
She further hoped that the event would help them gain aid, which is essential for them. Sandler also opened up about his encounter with the firefighters while he was shooting for I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry in 2007.
The 54-year-old actor further said that he and his co-star Kevin James portrayed Brooklyn firefighters, who are straight and single, yet they pretend to be homosexual. The on-screen couple keeps lying throughout the movie to receive the benefits of the domestic partner.
Sandler revealed that he used to work along with real firefighters for his character, and anytime he used to walk around the city, he stopped at local fire stations just to greet the real-life firefighters.
