When rap superstar Drake first shared photos of his son, Adonis Graham, on his Instagram a couple of months ago, it was big news as he had never done it before. Now, he reveals on a podcast the reason why he did it.

Page Six reports that Drake talked about his reasons on “Young Money Radio,” Lil Wayne’s podcast on Apple Music. The 33-year-old said that he did not plan on sharing the picture at all and that he just woke up that morning thinking that this was something that he had to do.

Drake said that he did not want the rest of his family to be hidden just because he made the choice to become a celebrity and that he wanted to free himself from that weight.

Cosmopolitan also notes that Drake mentioned regretting not being able to make memories with his son. He also shared that he wanted to “go places” with his son and share memories with him as he grows up.

On the Instagram post revealing his son, Drake called on his Instagram followers to connect to their own “inner light.” He also asked them to turn their awareness to something good. He ended his caption by declaring that he loves and misses his friends and family and that he wanted to be reunited with them as soon as possible.

Aside from being the first time his son was shown to the public, Drake’s photos also drew a lot of online attention because of Adonis Graham’s blue eyes, curly blonde hair, and fair skin, so unlike the features of Drake. Drake’s fans were quick to point out that Adonis resembled Drake’s mother to stop the speculations.

Even Sophie Brussaux, Adonis’s mom, took the speculation in stride by posting an edited photo of her and Drake with blonde hair. She jokes in her Instagram caption that Drake actually has blonde hair and that the public was deceived.

Before the photo revelation, the general public first found out about Adonis Graham from the Pusha T diss track “The Story of Adidon.” In the song, Pusha T not only accuses Drake of hiding his son from the world, but that Drake was also a bad father that did not support his son and the mother of his child.

Drake addressed the diss song on his 2018 album, “Scorpion.” In “Scorpion,” Drake finally admits to being the father of Adonis Graham, saying than hiding his son from the world, he was hiding the world from his son.

Drake also used “Scorpion” to talk about his complicated feelings about his relationship with Brussaux, as well as verbalizing his resentment at having the existence of his son being revealed through a diss track.
