John Mulaney Goes To Rehab For Cocaine And Alcohol Addiction
Recovering from addiction is an ongoing process, and for some, it takes help to truly recover from it. Seeking help is exactly what comedian John Mulaney is doing as he has gone into rehab for cocaine and alcohol addiction.
E! Online reports that the 38-year-old entered a Pennsylvania rehab facility for a 60-day stay. Quoting a source, the publication says Mulaney’s friends and family are happy that the comedian is seeking help and looking to get healthy.
The source also said that Mulaney is not against rehab and is actively working towards recovery. The source also cited the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic as one reason that Mulaney has slid back into his addictions.
As explained by Page Six, Mulaney has been open to his fans about his alcohol and cocaine addiction struggles. In a previous interview, Mulaney revealed that he started drinking at the age of 13 as a way to get attention.
Mulaney would then progress to using cocaine after finding that marijuana was not to his liking. He says that he loved cocaine and also began taking painkillers like Vicodin. The comedian even claimed that he could still stay upright after “three Vicodin and a tequila.”
It was in 2003 that Mulaney claimed he first got sober. He said that he just quit drinking and then drinking without even going to rehab and that he has been sober since then. His decision to remain sober was spurred by a weekend where he felt like he was “fading in and out.”
Before admitting himself to rehab, Mulaney had been seen hanging out with fellow Saturday Night Live colleague Pete Davidson. He was supposedly trying to lead Davidson towards a more “sober, domestic life.”
Mulaney is just the latest Hollywood celebrity to work towards sobriety. A couple of months ago, actor Tyler Posey opened up about his own sobriety and sexuality.
In an interview on SiriusXM’s The Jason Ellis Show, the 29-year-old actor revealed that he had now been sober for 71 days. Posey said that he had quit drinking and smoking marijuana and had started loving himself.
Like Mulaney, Posey said he started drinking and doing drugs as a teenager, slowly becoming an addiction as the years passed. However, Posey says his addictions were kept within the confines of his home.
Posey cites a “rough patch” as being the driving force for him to pursue sobriety. According to him, his addiction has resulted in him losing friends and people that he loved.
