Taylor Swift Sets New Records With 'Evermore'
Taylor Swift seems unstoppable this year! Yes, the 31-year-old singer has marked a new record by topping the Billboard 200 with Evermore for the second time in the same year. This is the eighth time overall when the album has topped the Billboard charts.
Surprisingly, Evermore was a surprise album that launched without any prior promotions and dropped on Dec. 11. The first album was launched on July 24, Folklore. However, the sister album of Folklore has garnered 329,000 equivalent album units in the United States within seven days of its release.
Swift has become the first female performer to achieve the number one album record on the Billboard 200 in 2020, along with YoungBoy Never Broke Again and BTS. Swift might soon overtake Barbra Streisand's record of being the female performers with the most number of number-one albums on the chart.
The 78-year-old singer has 11 records, while Madonna has nine. There are other ladies on the chart with a couple of albums while Swift is getting close to Streisand's record. The surprise album landed on number one as it debuted after four months of the original album.
It is interesting to watching the progress of the album as it was dropped without warning the fans and followers of her music. The country turned pop star has proved her charm in all the genres with albums such as Evermore, which is the latest release, Folklore dropped a couple of months ago, Lover in 2019, Reputation in 2017, 1989 released in 2014, Red in 2012, Speak Now in 2010, and Fearless in 2008.
The singer has successfully pushed more titles in the top 10 list. The debut album named after the singer's real name, Taylor Swift, released in 2006, earned the fifth position on the charts while Beautiful Eyes dropped in 2008 EP was at number nine.
In fact, Swift didn't drop any single tracks in advance before releasing the surprise album, but it seems fifteen tracks were more than enough to garner number one position on the Billboard Hot 100. One of the tracks from the album, Willow, opened at number one spot, but it didn't maintain the position for a long time. However, the music track was loved enough to stay on the top 10 list.
Swift recently admitted that the credit mentioned on the album as William Bowery is her real-life partner, Joe Alwyn. The couple has publicly admitted their love for each other. The album features other collaborators such as Jack Antonoff, Justin Vernon, Aaron Dessner, and Matt Berninger.
