Melania Trump disappoints the netizens
No facemask? No problem!—that is what the people online felt when Melania went to the Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 15 to read Christmas stories to the hospitalized children in the institution.
The First Lady arrived the same day while donning a gorgeous green Diane con Furstenberg trench coat, as per Hollywood Life. Due to the restrictions and strict social distancing measures, the reading this year looked differently.
That said, Melania only had two children named Sophia Martinez and Riley Whitney. The two young girls sat on the floor adjacent to the First Lady, together with several hospitalized kids joining the event via live streaming.
Melania arrived at the hospital with a face mask, but netizens were enraged to see the First Lady without the piece when she sat down in front of a tree. However, some remarked that Melania removing her mask at the event is acceptable as she sat six feet away from the two kids.
Did Melania Trump break the protocol?
The happening made netizens yell their comments and call out to the First Lady for removing her mask. Considering that Melania already fought her battle against COVID-19, she was mandated to take pre-emptive measures as it is still not proved how long antibodies remain in a person's system.
The Children's Hospital also clearly stated that everyone in the building must wear a facemask to help the virus not spread, especially that the patients are children.
However, straight from the hospital, spokesperson Diana Troese told CNN, "Under DC Health regulations, wearing a mask is not required when a person is giving a speech for broadcast or an audience, provided no one is within six feet of the speaker."
Diana further explained that the First Lady sat 12 feet away from her audience, and the venue is large, so there is no law or rule broken during the event. It was also stated that Melania wore a facemask on the remainder of her visit at the hospital.
But amid the defense of the hospital, many are still on the opposite side. To date, Melania is still criticized for "breaking COVID-19 protocols," as per Sky.
