Gwen Stefani Wins Season 19 Of 'The Voice,' Beating Fiance Blake Shelton
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton recently showed that a relationship needs a little bit of friendly competition. On Tuesday, Dec. 15, The No Doubt frontwoman won the 19th season finale of The Voice with her contestant, Carter Rubin, 15.
Rubin was crowned the Season 19 champion of The Voice during the recently concluded finale, giving Stefani her first win in her fifth season as a coach, USA Today reported. Stefani previously served as a coach on Seasons 7, 9, 12, and 17.
Blake won last season, the 51-year-old songstress said during the season premiere before adding that she is back this season and she is going to get a win. Stefani replaced Nick Jonas Rubin, a Long Island, New York native who became the youngest male winner ever.
He once said that even a chair turn would make him happy, but now has The Voice trophy. He was speechless when his name was called and couldn't help hiding his face in his hands as confetti began pouring all over the stage. "You won," Stefani shouted as she joined her champ, while Rubin shook his head in disbelief.
Following this epic win, Gwen took to her Instagram Story to rub a bit of salt in Shelton's wounds backstage. In the 10-second clip, she told her followers that she just beat Blake Shelton at The Voice. She then turned the camera to the country music star, who jokingly expressed his frustration saying, "This show is rigged."
She also posted a short clip with Rubin and captioned it, "OMG, we won." Shelton took to his Twitter account, sharing the same clip to congratulate Stefani, noting he is glad that it was her who beat #teamblake. As far as life is concerned, both Stefani and Blake are the winner this year.
Back in Oct., the couple announced their engagement on social media, but the "Hollaback Girl" singer almost spilled the beans earlier and almost ruined it for Shelton. During an appearance on Kelly Clarkson's daytime show, Stefani said she did not know that Shelton was planning to pop the question.
Aside from their families, Stefani's three sons from a previous marriage to Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale were present. The original plan was for everyone to see the house they were building, but she had no idea that Shelton had a ring. She revealed that Shelton informed her dad that he was going to propose to her. Her sister-in-law was able to capture some photos, she said.
