Former Adviser Accuses Gov. Andrew Cuomo Of Sexual Harassment
A former adviser to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has accused him of sexual harassment, claiming that behavior existed for years. She went on to say that many saw it and watch, and she had no idea what to expect in terms of being pestered.
Taking to Twitter account on Sunday. Boylan revealed that Cuomo sexually harassed her for several years, with many watching. In her tweet, Boylan noted that she did not know whether she will be grilled on her work, or harassed about her looks, or would it be both in the same conversation while working for the governor. This behavior, she added, went on for a long time.
Boylan, a Democrat running to be the Manhattan borough president, did not divulge the names of those people who could support her claims. Cuomo's spokesperson Caitlin Girouard released a statement to NBC New York, claiming there is no truth to these accusations. Avoiding interviews with reporters, Boylan tweeted that she wasn't interested in talking to journalists, noting that she was angry to be put in this situation at all.
Accusing Cuomo and some men like him for abusing their power, Boylan said she fell victim just as several other women have, despite working hard her whole life to help others and better herself. On Dec. 5, she touted her time in Cuomo's office as her most toxic team environment, adding that people are afraid of Cuomo.
After leaving Cuomo's office, she ran for Congress in New York's 10th District in this year's primary. She went up against Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler, who beat her effortlessly. Cuomo, a Democrat, is currently serving his third term as governor and has opposed President Donald Trump's policies on the coronavirus pandemic. Before Cuomo was elected to lead the state, he served as New York's attorney general.
Boylan worked for the governor's administration from Mar. 2015 to Oct. 2018, initially serving as executive vice president of Empire State Development, and later adopting a new role as a special adviser to the governor for economic development. Boylan, 36, who refused to talk to journalists, wrote in a tweet that she simply wants to validate the experience of numerous women in a bid to stop such abuse.
Boylan’s allegation against the 63-year-old N.Y. governor after multiple outlets reported that he is being considered for the job of the attorney general in President-elect Joe Biden's incoming administration. Earlier this month, Boylan claimed that she tried to quit three times but was stuck.
