Taraji P. Henson Announces Directorial Debut With 'Two-Faced'
Taraji P. Henson is all set to collaborate with Bron Studios to make her directorial debut. The 50-year-old actress announced her high school comedy-drama, Two-Faced, in which she will also star. The Golden Globe-winning and Oscar-nominated actress has worked with Tim Story as a producer before Think Like a Man.
The story is penned by Cat Wilkins and revolves around Joy's character, who is a high school Black senior who is not sure about joining the college as her dreams are intimidated by the charismatic and popular school principal, Jerald.
Moreover, Joy confronted the school principal for his racist past with evidence. The feature film will showcase a group of friends helping Joy to expose the racist principle. While the principal will learn the all-out-war students have planned against him in order to take him down.
Besides directing the movie, Henson will portray Joy's mother, Gina Robinson. Wilkins is a young writer who had recently done her graduation from UCLA in the MFA Screenwriting Program. In fact, she wrote Two-Faced screenplay at UCLA Screenwriters Showcase 2020 for the feature comedy category and won first place for the same.
TPH Entertainment and Henson together decided to produce along with Aaron L. Gilbert, who worked on Fences, Joker, and Bombshell in the past. Gilbert will represent Bron while Story will work on behalf of The Story Company banner along with Sharla Sumpter Bridgett, who has Wild Hogs and Coach Carter in the portfolio.
Trent Hubbard, Christine Conley, and Wilkins will serve as EPs. Henson reflected on the idea of her directorial debut and noted that she had spent two decades facing the camera, and now, she is thrilled to move behind the camera.
She explained that the characters attracted her the most that made her jump into this project. The actress explained that Joy's character is something that she needed growing up. Although she never came across such a character.
"It’s important that stories are told from a woman’s point of view and partnering with Bron Studios and the amazingly talented Tim Story, both who use their platforms to help elevate women and people of color, feels like the perfect match," Henson added.
The actress further shared her excitement and said that she couldn't wait to show this heartfelt story by Wilkins on the big screen. On the other hand, Gilbert said that Henson is an essential voice, and the studio is extremely glad to support her debut movie and Wilkins' script.
