Tom Girardi Responds To Erika Jayne's Divorce Filing
It looks like the divorce between reality star Erika Jayne and her lawyer husband, Tom Girardi, is not an amicable one at all. Girardi has now responded to Jayne’s divorce filing and has refused Jayne’s demands.
E! Online reports that court documents from the Los Angeles Superior Court reveal that Girardi is citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce while at the same time refusing to agree to Jayne’s demand for spousal support.
Aside from Girardi’s refusal to pay spousal support to Jayne, the 81-year-old lawyer has also requested the court to make Jayne pay for the attorney fees that he will incur as the divorce progresses.
No other clarifying details were included in Girardi’s response, such as what exactly those “irreconcilable differences” are. In fact, the response also muddles the exact date of separation between the two. Girardi put in “TBD” with regards to their date of separation.
As previously reported, Jayne is asking for spousal support from Girardi while at the same time asking to be exempt from providing spousal support to him. She is also asking her former husband to pay for her attorney’s fees.
The 49-year-old also asked the court to look into whether she had any claims to the properties that she shares with her former husband.
Us Magazine reveals that further complicating the divorce are allegations that the couple is involved in embezzlement and fraud. Law firm Edelson PC lodged a case against the two, alleging that they “are on the verge of financial collapse.”
Court documents acquired by the publication also claim that the couple’s separation is merely a way to protect their finances, which are supposedly being eaten away by a growing amount of unpaid debts. Neither Jayne nor Girardi have addressed these claims.
Jayne and Girardi have also neither confirmed nor denied rumors that their marriage was “unconventional,” with the two of them spend very little time together even before the divorce was filed.
Another Hollywood divorce where settlements are being contested is the one between Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock. The 43-year-old music manager is asking for monthly spousal and child support amounting to $436,000 from Clarkson.
The animosity between these former couples regarding settlements is a far cry from the amicable separation of assets between actors Clark Gregg and Jennifer Grey, who announced they were divorcing after 19 years of marriage.
In the settlement between the two, Grey wound up with all the earnings from the movie Dirty Dancing and its sequel Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights. Grey also wound up with 50 percent of Gregg’s earnings playing the character Agent Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
