Princess Anne, reportedly, cheated on her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips with her bodyguard, Peter Cross years ago.

In The Crown, Princess Anne’s affair with Cross was detailed in Season 4.

And in its Dec. 14 issue, Woman’s Day claimed that Princess Anne’s secret affair was exposed in the series.

However, Princess Anne and Cross’s relationship wasn’t a secret after all.

In fact, it was common knowledge among royal fans that Princess Anne developed feelings for Cross between the 1970s and the 1980s.

Cross even gave a tell-all interview about their relationship in 1985.

Back then, the former bodyguard said his relationship with Princess Royal flourished because the latter felt lonely and isolated when Phillips was away.

Cross also claimed that he and Princess Anne hooked up at Buckingham Palace, as well as at an empty cottage at Gatcombe Park, and in a three-bedroom property loaned to him by his friend.

According to reports, Queen Elizabeth intervened after learning that Princess Anne was cheating on Phillips with her bodyguard.

Her Majesty demanded Cross to return to his desk duties and she banned him from accompanying her only daughter everywhere.

In the documentary The Real Princess Anne, royal reporter James Whitaker discussed the scandalous affair between Princess Anne and Cross.

He said that after the Scotland Yard found out about the affair, they immediately fired Cross from being Princess Anne’s bodyguard.

However, The Sun reporter Harry Arnold claimed that Cross and Princess Anne figured out ways how to still see each other.

He said that the two carried on with their affair until it became public. And it was only after this happened that the two stopped talking.

According to Express, after news of the affair broke, Cross went into hiding. But two years later, he reached out to Arnold to confirm his affair with Princess Anne.

Cross, reportedly, told Arnold that he wasn’t able to confirm the reporter’s story years ago because he was still married.

But after he got divorced, Cross told Arnold that the reports were true about his affair with Princess Anne.

According to Elle, even though Princess Anne and Phillips’ relationship survived the scandal, it is what happened afterward that caused their marriage to fail.

Princess Anne once again cheated on Phillips with Timothy Laurence.

As such, in 1992, Princess Anne and Phillips divorced. And Princess Royal wed Laurence shortly after. The royal couple is still together today.
