Executive shake-ups have become the norm at NBCUniversal over the past few months, and now a new promotion is happening again at the company’s MSNBC division. Its current president, Phil Griffin, will be replaced by Rashida Jones.

Deadline reports that Griffin will be leaving MSNBC by next year, with Jones set to succeed him. Griffin had already expressed his desire to leave before once the network had established itself.

Taking his place is Jones, who was promoted to NBC News and MSNBC’s senior vice president for specials just a few months ago. Jones has also been overseeing the network’s daytime programming.

Variety says that NBCUniversal’s news operation chairman Cesar Conde described Jones as someone with a great understanding of MSNBC, especially since she has been with the channel for almost a decade.

Conde said that Jones is a good pick for the position as she already has an understanding of the culture and an appreciation for the channel’s potential and impact. With her installation as president, Jones makes history as the first Black executive to do so in the country.

Jones will have big shoes to fill, especially since Griffin has been a longtime employee of MSNBC. He has been with the channel since 1996 when it first launched and has been its president since 2008.

Jones is just one of the numerous promotions that have been happening to the whole of NBCUniversal. Pearlena Igbokwe, another Black executive, was promoted three months ago to be the company’s new television content chief.

In her new role, Igbokwe will be handling Universal Television, Universal Cable Productions, and NBCUniversal International Studios.

Susan Rovner, a former co-president of Warner Bros. Television, also made a move to NBCUniversal to become its new entertainment programming division head. Rovner is now in charge of NBC and its cable networks’ late-night, unscripted, and scripted programming.

The changes in NBCUniversal are just some of what has been happening across the greater television and entertainment landscape. For instance, streaming giant Netflix recently named its Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria.

In her new position, Bajaria has already shaken up the executive structure at the streaming service with the promotion of a number of executives as well as streamlining a number of the streaming giant’s divisions.

Even before Bajaria’s promotion, Netflix had already taken in Bozoma Saint John as their new chief marketing officer. Saint John has extensive experience, having been Pepsi North America’s head of music and entertainment marketing, Apple Music’s head of consumer marketing, the chief brand officer at Uber, and Endeavor’s chief marketing officer.
