Colman Domingo Opens Up About Special Episode Of 'Euphoria'
The last time fans witnessed Euphoria was almost one and a half years ago. However, the special episodes of the series returned on HBO. Colman Domingo, who portrayed Ali's character, opened up about the necessity of the special episode in 2020.
The 51-year-old actor also reflected on season two of the series, which fans anticipate in the future. In an interview with EW, the actor admitted that being occupied with AMC and other projects, it was difficult to spare time for Euphoria.
However, he revealed meeting Sam Levinson during Birth of a Nation's after-party in 2016. The actor immediately jammed with Levinson, and they became friends. Domingo said that he spoke with the 35-year-old actor about almost everything possible, and soon they met again in New York.
Domingo recalled meeting Levinson at SoHo House and addressed it "bro-date." Moreover, Levinson wrote a character for him in Assassination Nation, which marked their first project together.
"There's a character based on someone who was my sponsor, and it could be such an incredible grounded presence for our main protagonist, and I'm going to write it for you," the actor recalled. The actor explained this is how he got the role in Euphoria and revealed that they both try to make any project work together.
In fact, Domingo said that he shot all four episodes of him in the first season within two days. The actor acknowledged how Levinson makes everything work for him so that he can focus on other projects at the same time.
Although Domingo stressed how much this role is needed for the ongoing situation across the nation. The If Beale Street Could Talk star said that when he was in front of his computer, marching on the streets, conference calls, making DEI strategy during the rallies, and finally he gets this script.
The actor noted that the script captured all the emotions he was going through at that time. He further admitted that art helps to get through a lot of things in life. Regarding season two, the actor revealed that there was a table read before the lockdown.
Domingo praised Levinson's arc development skills for every character, including the smallest one. The actor said that he was aware that his character would get more depth soon. The actor revealed during the behind the scenes conversations. He knew the basics of his character well enough while he kept wondering how Levinson would go ahead with the storyline.
