Mackenzie Foy Opens Up About 'Interstellar’ And 'Black Beauty'
Mackenzie Foy revealed that she had to re-shoot Interstellar by Christopher Nolan and her upcoming classic movie, Black Beauty, helmed by Ashley Avis. The 20-year-old actress is one of those rare actresses who have worked in two Disney movies already at an earlier stage of her career.
However, the actress is well-known for her work in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and The Conjuring. Foy opened up about an interesting behind the scene moment when she had to reshoot Nolan’s Interstellar.
The actress recalled the Good-Bye Scene in the movie between her and her father portrayed by Matthew McConaughey. Foy said that the scene has already been shot before in Canada, but the scene was filmed again with a different setup.
Foy explained that the re-filmed scene had McConaughey hanging up in the wires and wearing a spacesuit. She said that it was funny as she didn't know what was happening because they didn't provide her with the script. The actress recalled walking on the scene's set and informing that this scene is already done before while the creators asked her to trust them and just perform.
"So the next thing I know, I’m two stories up in a half-remake of Murph’s bedroom, and Matthew is in a spacesuit, flying around and yelling at me through a bookcase," she added. After portraying her first leading role in The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, released in 2018, the actress returned on Disney Plus, portraying Black Beauty's modern adaptation.
The actress revealed that a major part of the movie had been filmed in South Africa. Although there is a storyline shot in New York and the filmmaker, Avis, blew her away with the skills of filmmaking.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Jesse Stone: Lost In Paradise star revealed that it was unbelievable to watch how they created New York’s set up in South Africa. She disclosed that the Central Park scenes in the film are actually not shot in New York, and instead, the filmmaker recreated the location in South Africa.
The actress also mentioned that she would be working with Jessica Chastain again, with whom she shared the screen during Interstellar. Foy reflected on wearing masks during the dust storm scene in movies, and now, she said it feels crazy to wear goggles and a mask to do grocery shopping. Moreover, she admitted reading Black Beauty in grade fourth along with A Little Princess and The Secret Garden.
