Netflix could, reportedly, lose thousands, if not millions of subscriptions following the release of The Crown Season 4.

According to New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, a lot of people were not pleased with the streaming giant’s insensitivity in depicting certain members of the royal family in the series.

For instance, Netflix made it seem as though Prince Charles was cold and calculated towards Princess Diana. They also claimed that he started his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles before he and Princess Diana tied the knot.

However, the publication said that these are not true. In fact, it is also not true that Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship continued in the early days of the Prince of Wales and Princess of Wales’ marriage.

In one of the scenes, Prince Charles also verbally abused Princess Diana while she’s pregnant. But in real life, this didn’t happen.

During a recent interview, royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith said that Netflix could’ve included a disclaimer in every episode to reiterate that The Crown is a work of fiction. And any similarity with real-life characters is purely coincidental.

However, Netflix just included disclaimers about bulimia in certain episodes where the mental health disorder was shown.

As such, royal experts and royal fans alike couldn’t help but speculate on the future of Netflix. They said that it’s highly likely that a lot of Princess Diana’s fans would cancel their subscription immediately.

Meanwhile, Harper’s Bazaar also dissected some of the romances shown in The Crown.

For instance, Princess Anne mentioned that Princess Diana was having an affair with her bodyguard, Barry Mannakee. But this was uttered as a joke while Princess Anne was talking to Queen Elizabeth.

But according to Oprah Mag, what Princess Diana and Mannakee shared was more serious than what was shown in The Crown.

In her private recordings with her voice coach, Peter Settelen, Princess Diana called Mannakee her greatest love.

The Princess of Wales didn’t mention Mannakee’s name, but she said that her greatest love died in a motorcycle accident. And this is how her former bodyguard passed away.

Princess Diana and James Hewitt’s affair was also highlighted in the series.

In the book Princess in Love, Hewitt told author Anna Pasternak that Princess Diana asked him to give her riding lessons. But the problem was they fell in love.

Princess Diana also previously declared that she was in love with Hewitt. But she was very let down by their relationship.
