China Anne McClain Reveals Exit Plan Before 'Black Lightning' Cancellation
China Anne McClain gets real about Hollywood and how it has created an illusion to praise what is not important. Yes, the 22-year-old actress shared an emotional video on her social media after the action fiction series Black Lightning got canceled by the network, The CW.
The show has already completed four seasons and it is available on Netflix. However, The Tyler Perry's House of Payne star said that even before the cancelation was announced, she didn't want to continue portraying the Jennifer Pierce/Lightning on the fictional series.
Although McClain noted that she had no clue about the show being canceled before Nov. 21, she received the news just like any other cast member. The video posted on Instagram revealed that the actress had plans to quit the show before shooting the next season.
She went on to explain that it was going to be her final season, regardless the creators make future seasons or not. However, she further said that her reasons are completely different and she doesn't want to get into the details while she asked her fans to trust her.
McClain spoke in the Instagram video for almost 13-minute in which she revealed that her contract was limited to four seasons only and the viewers might see less screen-time of her character when the last season will release on Feb. 8.
The actress also spoke about Hollywood and how it impacted her. She disclosed that a lot happened during the lockdown and quarantine duration. She also made it clear that she is not going to talk politically correct only.
The NAMIC Vision Award-winning actress acknowledged the people who are dying and said that the world is getting real now while Hollywood is just an illusion. The actress said that she is following the right path by doing God's work and nothing else.
Although she ensured her fans and followers that she didn't leave the show because there was an issue with the show or the network. McClain got teary eyes as she spoke about the time spent on the network and working on the show.
She also praised the president of the network, Mark Pedowitz, and said she really like him and Peter Roth, who is the president of Warner Bros., and Salim, the showrunner. The actress believed that people who know her closely would understand why she made this decision.
