A loyal ally of President Donald Trump, Chris Christie, believes it is time for the president to end his baseless attempts to reverse the results of the presidential election. The former Governor of New Jersey said Sunday that the president has failed to offer any evidence to back his claims of widespread voter fraud, adding that his legal team is in a state of total disorder.

Christie urged Trump to put the United States first in an interview on ABC, noting that he should present it if the president has the evidence of fraud. He criticized Trump's lawyers' attempts to damage Republican governors who have refused to go along with the president's dubious claims of voter fraud.

In his interview, Christie described Trump's legal team's conduct as a "national embarrassment," pointing out at attorney Sidney Powell's allegations against Governor of Georgia Brian Kemp.

Georgia is slated to administer another recount of its election ballots following a request from the Trump campaign on Saturday. However, the recount isn't likely to change the outcome of the Nov. 3 election. President-elect Joe Biden, who was announced the winner on Friday, has a 2 percent (or 12,670 votes) lead over Trump in the state.

Christie had helped Trump with the debate preparations during his 2016, as well as his 2020 election bids. He said although the president's legal team has made some big claims of voter fraud in news conferences, they have not been able to back them up in the courtroom.

He went on to say that he has been a supporter of Trump and has voted for him twice, but elections have consequences, so there is no point in acting as if something happened, even though it didn't. Furthermore, Christie said Trump's inability to offer pieces of evidence only suggests that there is no evidence, AlJazeera reported.

During his interview, Christie said he is a strong Republican and loves his party, but this is the time when the country has to come first. The president's lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis on Saturday tried to distance themselves from Powell, claiming she is practicing law independently.

This statement comes shortly after Powell, Giuliani, and Ellis holding a wild news conference at the RNC (Republican National Committee) headquarters. Interestingly, Trump had announced that Powell was joining his legal team on Twitter just a week before.

After Maryland's Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, criticized Trump's attempts to overturn the election result, the president tweeted that Hogan was paid by South Korea for flawed coronavirus tests, calling him an Anti-Trump Hero.
