Three Of Trump's Four Lawyers Move To Withdraw From Representing His Campaign Ahead Of Hearing
Three of the four Trump campaign lawyers representing the campaign's biggest election-related lawsuit in Pennsylvania have pulled out from the case just one day before the hearing. In the lawsuit filed against Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, the campaign claimed there were statewide irregularities in ballots counting.
According to a court filing on Monday, the three lawyers, including Douglas Bryan Hughes, John Scott, and Linda Kerns, have pulled back from making their appearances as counsel for the Trump campaign. It confirmed that Marc Scaringi would be serving as counsel for Plaintiffs, adding that Plaintiffs have agreed to this withdrawal.
In its federal lawsuit, the Trump campaign demanded that 14,000 votes should not be considered since Pennsylvania's election process wasn't constitutional. Aside from that, the president and his allies claim different counties handled ballots differently, noting that a considerable number of mail ballots were counted illegally and that voters in Pennsylvania were permitted to cure problems with defective ballots.
The two counties mentioned in the Trump campaign's lawsuit for carrying out voter fraud actually voted for the president, per Business Insider. According to The Washington Post, the campaign issued an updated lawsuit version issued days after withdrawing some of its original allegations.
Boockvar's office said at the time that the lawsuit was filed based on rejected legal theories and a dearth of evidence. Law firm Porter Wright Morris & Arthur, which represented the Trump campaign in this case, also moved to withdraw from it last week. Hearings in the case are slated to take place on Tuesday and Thursday.
Aside from Pennsylvania, the cases brought to upset President-elect Joe Biden's win didn't last too long in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia as well. Moreover, there is a noteworthy drop in cases targeted to block key states' popular vote wins for the former president, with two from the president's campaign, one from an elector in Georgia, and one from Michigan poll watchers, CNN reported.
Voters began dropping their suits three days after following a federal appellate court argument over voters failing to bring constitutional claims, blocking the path the Pennsylvania voters were bent on taking in their lawsuit. Trump has refused to concede the election and continues making false claims over widespread voter fraud without providing any evidence.
Biden won the recently concluded election by turning Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan over. In its lawsuits in Michigan and Pennsylvania, the Trump campaign has demanded a recount in Wisconsin.
