Tony Hale's 'The Mysterious Benedict Society' Moves From Hulu To Disney+
While there are numerous platforms available for streaming favorite movies and television series, it seems Disney is climbing the ladder pretty quickly! Yes, Tony Hale's The Mysterious Benedict Society is the latest series to move to Disney+.
The Trenton Lee Stewart written novel was originally created for the Hulu platform, but it seems Disney's umbrella is becoming a favorite for many filmmakers. The series will star Kristen Schaal opposite the Forky Asks a Question star, and it will consist of eight episodes that will be launched in 2021. The drama revolves around a bunch of orphans who are gifted.
The series is being produced under 20th Television, which is a part of Disney TV Studios. The filming of The Mysterious Benedict Society is currently taking place in Vancouver with cast members including Hale, Schaal, Marta Timofeeva, Mystic Inscho, Emmy DeOliveira, Seth Carr, Gia Sandhu, MaameYaa Boafo, and Ryan Hurst.
Besides this series, there are a couple of series that moved from Hulu to Disney+, such as High Fidelity and Love Victor, while The Right Stuff moved to Disney+ from National Geographic Channel. Interestingly, Love Victor, that is basically a romantic series, got a second season on the Hulu platform, but the romantic comedy High Fidelity got axed by the streamers.
"The Mysterious Benedict Society is a beautifully executed adaptation of the celebrated and beloved book series,” said Dana Walden, chairman of Walt Disney TV entertainment. She further said that it is a clever, fun, and original attempt for entertaining family, and that makes it best for their platform.
The 56-year-old businesswoman further said that it works in the creator’s favor to work with a platform that suits their content. Walden noted that after watching a couple of episodes, it seems that the show should definitely stream on Disney+.
However, Disney+ is not the only platform ruling the business. There are other media giants such as NBC Universal and Warner Media, who are giving tough competition to Netflix. The Ride Along fame screenwriter, Phil Hay, and Matt Manfredi have developed the series while Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin are the showrunners.
Besides Disney's 20th TV, the show is going to be co-produced by Sonar Entertainment, while Karen Kehela Sherwood and Jamie Tarses will serve as executive producers. Manfredi and Hay agreed that Disney+ is the best place to stream their content as they feel inspired and supported by the platform at every step.
