'Strictly Come Dancing' Contestant Leaves Because Of COVID-19
The current season of Strictly Come Dancing continues to be affected by the global coronavirus pandemic. After a contestant and a crew member tested positive for the coronavirus, another positive test result affected the show.
The BBC reports that professional dancer Katya Jones has tested positive for the coronavirus. Unfortunately, the show’s health and safety protocols require Jones and her partner, former boxer Nicola Adams, to leave the show because of this.
Their departure makes them the first dancing couple to leave the show because of the global coronavirus pandemic. Adams and Jones are also the first same-sex couple to compete on the show after the production agreed to Adam's request for a female dancer.
The Guardian adds that Jones is asymptomatic and has not displayed any of the symptoms associat3d with COVID-19. Adams has tested negative for the coronavirus but will also self-isolate like Jones as part of health and safety precautions in place in the United Kingdom.
As for the rest of the cast, the production says that none of them have tested positive and will continue to participate in the show. According to reports, a number of crew members who came into contact with Jones have also been self-isolating.
This is the third positive coronavirus test result to come out of Strictly Come Dancing. Early in October, contestant Harvey Cantwell -- better known as YouTuber and musician HRVY -- tested positive for the coronavirus before the start of the competition and had to self-isolate for a week.
Thankfully, Cantwell tested negative soon after and is currently participating in the competition. Cantwell was so happy that he posted a photo of himself on his Twitter account, jumping in a puddle of water.
Back in September, a crew member of Strictly Come Dancing also tested positive for the coronavirus. Because of the result, the Strictly Come Dancing set had to be cleaned with electrostatic sprayers, and the rest of the crew sent home.
Eliminating cast members that have tested positive for the coronavirus is just one of the precautions the show has in place. Strictly Come Dancing has also cut down the number of its episodes as well as the participating contestants.
The United Kingdom has recently imposed a lockdown once again due to a spike of coronavirus cases. As of the latest update, there are now 1.2 million confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country. There are now 50,928 people that have died from COVID-19 in the United Kingdom.
