Donald Trump and his allies continue to raise questions about the result of the recently concluded presidential election, with the president making baseless claims about widespread voters’ fraud and accusing the other party of stealing the election from him. Meanwhile, U.S. President-elect Joe Biden has appointed Ron Klain as his White House chief of staff.

In a news release, the Biden transition office said on Wednesday that Klain had been tapped to be Biden's incoming chief of staff. The move elevates Klain, one of Biden's longtime aides, to a powerful position in the White House.

Klain is expected to spearhead a White House that will probably be busy restricting the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, which continues to claim numerous lives across the nation. This will be particularly challenging for Klain as he would be working along with a divided Congress that could comprise a Republican-led Senate, News 18 reported.

Klain was the coordinator of the Ebola response in the 2014 outbreak and is one of Biden's most trusted campaign advisers. He was widely expected to be picked for the top job. He served as chief of staff to vice president during the Clinton administration and Biden during his tenure as the vice president for President Barack Obama.

Biden released a statement detailing the important role Klain played while working with him. He recalled working alongside Klain to recover America's economy from one of the worst downturns back in 2009 and overcame a critical public health emergency in 2014. Biden said Klain's deep, varied experience, coupled with his ability to work with people across the political spectrum, is what he needs in a White House chief of staff, considering that they face an unprecedented crisis while bringing the people of America together again, CNN reported.

Klain released his own statement, praising Biden and describing his new role as the honor of a lifetime. He said he looks forward to helping Biden, who assembled a team of talented and diverse people to work in the White House, Reuters reported, Keeping in line with their ambitious agenda for change.

Moreover, he said they would continue to try and heal the divides in the United States. Klain was previously Biden's vice-presidential chief of staff and recently served as a senior advisor to his presidential campaign.
