Dwayne Johnson is teaming up with Universal Pictures and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions for The Scorpion King. While the 48-year-old actor shared his excitement to reboot the first movie ever, fans are equally stunned and looking forward to the project.

The Scorpion King was my very first role ever on the silver screen and I’m honored and excited to reimagine and deliver this cool mythology to a whole new generation,” the actor said in a statement.

Johnson further said in the statement that he is lucky to start his movie career from such an epic film, and if The Scorpion King wouldn't have taken place, then his career wouldn't be the same today.

However, he acknowledged the thrill of rebooting the action-adventure film released back in 2002. Johnson also said that at Seven Bucks Productions, he intends to create similar opportunities for other artists in the industry.

He revealed his faith in Jonathan Herman, who is working on the script at the moment, and said that he is sure the 47-year-old screenwriter is going to deliver the best script that will cater to the global audience.

Herman was nominated for Academy Award for Writing (Original Screenplay) for Straight Outta Compton in 2015. Johnson and Hiram Garcia, who is production president of Seven Bucks’ will produce the reboot together.

The actor worked in the original release as Mathyaus, who was a titular warrior. Although it was not the first movie for Johnson. The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star had first appeared on the silver screen in The Mummy Returns released in 2001 along with Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser.

It was one of the biggest box office openers at that time that earned $178 million worldwide. It kick-started Johnson film career, who was known for his WWE superstar status in the early 2000s.

Garcia admitted that the original The Scorpion King marked a turning point for the actor to enter the film world and it is a special project for them because it seems to be full circle for him as well as Seven Bucks Productions.

The 51-year-old businessperson further said that it is a testament that they all have been fortunate to build an audience for themselves over the past decades. She also noted that it is a humble reminder to value the storytelling that is authentic and timeless. Tony Ducret and Jay Polidoro will look after the project while UTA will be represented by Herman.
