Prince William was greatly affected by Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce in 1996, and he continued to struggle because of it until he was older.

Luckily for the Duke of Cambridge, he met Kate Middleton at the University of St. Andrew’s and his life has never been the same ever since.

In the ITV documentary “Kate: The Making Of A Modern Queen,” Sarah Bradford, Viscount Bangor, talked about the role that the Duchess of Cambridge played in transforming Prince William.

She said that Middleton’s influence on her husband has been very important since she was the one that strengthened him.

“I think he was quite seriously affected by the bad relationship of his parents and I think that Kate has strengthened him. Harry, of course, bounces along anyway, but I think William was more sensitive and more affected by, say, the suffering of his mother. And I think Kate has provided the necessary stability for him,” Bradford said.

Royal author Katie Nicholl echoed Bradford’s thoughts about Middleton in the same documentary. She said that Middleton’s confidence and commitment to royal life helped boost Prince William’s confidence. As such, the royal couple is able to tackle a lot of things together.

“Don’t be under the illusion that she's a wallflower, because she's not. She’s very strong, she’s very confident and she has real clarity of vision and I think William depends on that hugely ‒ so she’s brought a huge amount to William’s life,” Nicholl said.

The royal author went on to say that Middleton has filled Prince William’s life with happiness and security, and she gave her husband a family life through her own family. Additionally, some of the things that Prince William wasn’t able to enjoy growing up he was able to experience because of his wife.

Prince William and Middleton have been together for almost two decades since they started dating while they were still in college. After confirming their romance in 2001, the couple decided to call it quits in 2004.

Three years later, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge once again called it quits. But on both occasions, Prince William and Middleton found themselves back into each other’s arms.

On April 29, they will be celebrating their ninth wedding anniversary. They will most likely have a private gathering at Anmer Hall, where they are currently self-isolating with their kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
