'The Voice': Blake Shelton Reveals He Is Considering A Career Change
On Monday, the Battle Rounds for season 19 kicked off, with the coaches setting their team members in direct competition with each other in a show-stopping vocal duel. However, Blake Shelton seemed immersed in current events during the commercial break and considering a potential career change.
The 44-year-old country singer said he would stop doing TV and music, and run for mayor of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, instead. Shelton even revealed why he hasn't so far run for mayor, noting that he is afraid he would lose, which would be extremely embarrassing.
Shelton jokes that his mother might vote for him, and that would be the only vote he gets, as fellow coach John Legend burst out laughing. Aside from his mother, Shelton is likely to earn another vote from Kane Brown, his celebrity mentor from season 19. Brown has teamed up with his fellow country superstar to work with Shelton's team.
Brown revealed his dream that he says nobody knew about, noting that he always wanted to be on The Voice, and sing "Ol' Red" and get on Shelton's team. He raved about being on the show, adding that he loves The Voice. Shelton went to express his disbelief about Brown being there beside him and deemed Brown the hottest thing as far as country music is concerned, Entertainment Times reported.
During the premiere episode of the battle round, two more contestants, including Jus Jon and Payton Lamar from Team Blake, were pit against each other during the Knockout challenge. These highly talented contestants, who are regarded as the best in the line-up, covered Normani and Sam Smith's hit single "Dancing With A Stranger," MeAww reported.
Both contestants lived up to their reputations, with Jus Jon showing his ability and Payton not disappointing either. Shelton picked Jus Jon for the following round after talking to the other judges. However, none of the judges saved Payton or pressed the buzzer to steal her.
This decision was met with mixed reaction on social media, with one Twiitterating noting that they would have picked Payton, adding that both did great. However, Jus Jon showed a lot of potential energy. The commenter noted that Jus Jon has what it takes to go far, provided he gets guided in the correct direction.
