Debra Messing's Unconventional Contract And Feud With Co-Star Finally Addressed
'Will and Grace' just ended its reboot last week and the creator finally admits the truth about the alleged feud between co-stars Debra Messing and Megan Mullaly.
The first 'Will and Grace' ended in 2005, but in 2017 the got a reboot and four of TV's most memorable characters came back on screen. Fans of the show were able to see the adventures of lawyer Will Truman, interior designer Grace Adler, and their friends Karen Walker and Jack McFarland. The new reboot brought many changes, specifically the scened from the series finale in 2005. Everything turned out the be some hallucinations and Will and Grace never had children. But the new reboot saw them getting ready to prepare for Grace's child.
And now Page Six is reporting that the creators were able to present a believable ending due to star Debra Messing's unconventional contract. Due to the coronavirus, many productions in Hollywood have had to shut down and stop shooting. This has resulted in shortened seasons, like in the case of 'Riverdale' which will end after only 19 episodes. Many other shows are ending on cliffhangers due to the situation, but that is not the case for 'Will and Grace'.
That is because they actually finished filming the whole season before Christmas, months before the pandemic started sweeping through the United States. This is actually a stipulation in Messing's contract. And so even though it was an unconventional addition, it actually made everything easier for everyone.
With the end of the era, the feud between the female stars has again popped up. Megan Mullaly and her character Karen Walker's absence was very much felt in the last season of the show. Vulture reported that Max Mutchnick, the show's creator admitted that it was not an easy year. But he says that “but the permanent legacy of the show is much more important to us than any temporary squabble that would take place on the stage.”
This can be an admission already that the Messing and Mullaly were really in a feud which resulted in Mullaly taking a leave of absence for many episodes in the last season. But it looks like everything is okay now given that she was able to join the rest of the cast to give a satisfying ending to the series. Not only was Karen able to get back with Stan, but Jack was able to realize his Broadway dreams, and Will and Grace have their own happy endings too.
