Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton announced the much-anticipated engagement on Oct. 27, much to the delight of their fans. The No Doubt alum announced the happy news on her Instagram account, in an adorable picture of her showing off her new ring along with her fiance.

"Yes, please," she captioned the picture, confirming to her fans and social media followers that the country singer had finally proposed to her and that she said yes. This comes five years after Stefani's split from her first husband, Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. They were in a relationship for two decades and tied the knot in 2002.

Before Rossdale, Stefani dated No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal from 1987 to 1994. The rock band's hit, "Don’t Speak," drew inspiration from their breakup after seven years of dating. Sitting down on The Howard Stern Show, the 51-year-old rock star opened up about her past relationship, including the one with Kanal before she met Rossdale.

While Kanal's decision to call it quits devastated her, the breakup inspired her creatively. In an interview with The Guardian in 2012, Stefani admitted that she was passive before and only cared about being in love with her boyfriend, but after the breakup, she realized that she was really good at writing songs.

She began dating Rossdale in 1995 after meeting the singer at a radio station Christmas concert shortly after her split from Kanal. The "Hollaback Girl" songstress admitted that she was in a vulnerable place when she met Rossdale, telling Stern that connecting with the rhythm guitarist of the band Bush felt completely different.

Stefani said she was in a rebellious place because she felt rejected at the time. Rossdale got her number by stalking her. She said that she was only 26, had only one relationship, and was still living at home when she met Rossdale.

After dating for several years, they married in 2002 and had three children, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo. After finding out that he was cheating on her with their kids' nanny, she broke up with Rossdale, describing that phase of her life as the beginning of hell in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

Although she was shattered by her partner's infidelity, in the beginning, Stefani felt there must be a reason for this. Shortly after her split, Shelton divorced his wife Miranda Lambert, and this led to him and Stefani bonding over their splits, and romance blossomed soon.

Shelton told Katie Cook of CMT's Hot 20 Countdown that he thinks nobody, except God, could have seen that coming.
