Joe Biden To Take Executive Actions To Overturn Donald Trump's Policies
President-elect Joe Biden has vowed to assert the role of United States' leadership again on the global stage by initiating a slew of day-one executive actions, marking a significant change from policies introduced by outgoing President Donald Trump. With the former vice president defeating the president, his team is focused on ensuring that the promises he made at the campaign-trails are turned into solid plans that he can implement as soon as he takes office.
While Trump continues to reject the election results and is fighting them with legal claims, a transition official told CNN that preparation for a Biden administration hasn't stopped. Keeping in line with that, Biden's website, BuildBackBetter.com, shows four administration priorities for the recently elected presidency including, climate change, racial equity, economic recovery, and the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
Biden's first focus understandably revolves around handling the still-raging coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, he is expected to name a 12-person coronavirus task force, according to two people with knowledge of his plans. During the campaign, Biden had said that he would speak to the government's top infectious diseases expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, before taking office.
Aside from that, he is slated to take some executive actions in an attempt to undo a myriad of Trump's foreign policy actions while trying to the nation to its status at the end of former President Barack Obama's administration before Trump took office. Responding to CNN's State of the Union's question about the action he will take on his first day in office, Biden's campaign adviser Symone Sanders said that the President-elect would live up to his promises he made on the campaign trail.
Among other promises, Biden assured that on his first day in office, he would rejoin the Paris climate accord, a major international deal to fight climate change that Trump left in 2017. Moreover, he also promised that he would rejoin the WHO (World Health Organization), which Trump took action to exit this year.
These actions represent the massive difference between Biden and Trump. Biden has been a longtime believer in the pacts and multilateral organizations that Trump lacked confidence in. Besides that, Biden has assured that he will lift bans on travel from some Muslim-majority countries while reinstating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which let "dreamers" stay in the United States.
Dreamers is a term that alludes to undocumented immigrants who were brought to the country as children. The transition team Biden created has been preparing since Labor Day. Now that the results of the elections are out, it has increased its activities such as launching social media accounts and websites on Sunday.
