Meghan Markle Asks Judge To Delay Court Hearing, Requests Summary Judgment Rather Than Full Trial
Meghan Markle has, reportedly, asked the judge to delay her scheduled court hearing on January 11 against the Associated Press.
According to People, Markle’s legal team wants to avoid having a full trial and they’re pushing for a summary judgment instead. If granted, this would prevent confidential facts from being leaked to the public.
On Thursday, Markle’s legal team will head to the court in London to present their case. They are, reportedly, applying for a summary judgment and are confident that they don’t need a full trial because they’re confident with their case.
Markle is also asking the court to postpone her court date because her team is still facing additional work after Mail on Sunday included excerpts from Finding Freedom in the case.
The publication accused Markle and Prince Harry of giving their inputs to Finding Freedom authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand for the book. However, the authors denied ever speaking to the couple.
Mail On Sunday also questioned while photos of Markle’s handwritten letters to her dad, Thomas Markle Sr., were printed in Finding Freedom when the Duchess of Sussex considers it private property.
Markle filed a lawsuit against the publication after they published photos of the letters months ago. But Mail on Sunday insists that Markle knew that the letters would be published, that’s why she wrote to her dad. The Suits alum and her dad have been estranged for years.
Last month, Markle lost a bid to stop Finding Freedom from being used as evidence in her lawsuit against Mail on Sunday.
Meanwhile, if Markle’s request to not have a full trial will be granted, this means that she wouldn’t have to come face to face with witnesses like her dad and friends.
There are fears that the Duchess of Sussex’s close friends will be called into question to form part of her defense.
According to The Sun, if the judge agrees with Markle’s request, he will decide on the lawsuit behind closed doors. And his decision will be based solely on written evidence and not on court testimonies.
In related news, Markle also made headlines this week after revealing that she’s going to lead a master class on how to dress appropriately for Zoom meetings.
Throughout the past couple of weeks, Markle has been making appearances on Zoom and it’s evident that she’s always power dressing.
