Katherine Schwarzenegger Opens Up About Anxiety And Postpartum Depression
Katherine Schwarzenegger revealed her lifestyle after becoming a mother. The 30-year-old author opened up with her friend Dr. Sterling regarding anxiety and postpartum depression during her Instagram live session.
It was Schwarzenegger's first-ever Live session after she gave birth to her daughter, Lyla, who she shares with Chris Pratt. The little bundle of joy has turned almost three months old and the new mom disclosed her personal experience.
The daughter of popular action star and former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has always maintained her privacy and never shared any experience related to anxiety and depression on a public platform.
However, she addressed the issue after her fans and followers asked multiple times to speak on these topics. The Rock What You've Got author shared the moment when she visited her doctor during her post-six-week appointment. In general, the doctor told her that she has never seen this high level of anxiety and postpartum depression before.
The author further explained that her doctor said it is mostly noticed in all her patients since the coronavirus pandemic started. Schwarzenegger found it interesting as she could relate to the alienating feeling a new mother has who couldn't socialize with people like before.
The mother of one explained that many people don't have such ability and seek Dr. Sterling's advice for mothers while they feel isolated before and after pregnancy.
"Is this person going to be someone who can lift me up or maybe put more stress for me?…You can ask people to follow certain rules before they come into your space," Dr. Sterling began to explain. He further said that one should do the proper assessments during pregnancy regarding the support system around.
During the conversation, they also spoke about postpartum anxiety. Dr. Sterling revealed that as per the studies, there is 40 percent of people who have experienced postpartum anxiety in their life, which is also called as PPD.
Schwarzenegger seemed concerned for her husband and asked if partners also experience similar anxiety and depression also, how the partner can lend support to help them get through a difficult journey.
The doctor explained that it is possible for even husbands to face the same depression. However, it could be different compared to the wife or partners who just delivered the baby. Schwarzenegger admitted that she thought that husbands would never suffer from such depression and thanked the doctor for an informative conversation.
