Garth Brooks Accepts BBMAs Icon Award While Thanking His Family
Garth Brooks received the honor of being a certified icon! Yes, the 58-year-old country legend at the Billboard Music Awards was honored with the ICON Award on Oct. 14. It is one of the most envied titles during the Music Award, which was previously presented to Cher in 2017.
This year the award was presented by the 74-year-old former ICON Award holder. This title has been presented to a group of only nine musicians so far besides Cher and Brooks. The other legendary names include Mariah Carey, who honored in 2019, Janet Jackson in 2018, Céline Dion in 2016, Jennifer Lopez in 2014, Prince in 2013, Stevie Wonder in 2012, and Neil Diamond in 2011.
The singer and songwriter performed various hit songs such as Friends in Low Places, The Dance, Dive Bar, Standing Outside the Fire, The River, Callin' Baton Rouge, and The Thunder Rolls before he thanked his family.
Once the soothing performances came to an end, Brooks expressed his gratitude towards Cher. Brooks said that getting this award presented by Cher makes him feel "cool" while he noted that using the word "cool" was never the choice of word to describe his personality.
However, he further revealed his faith and thanked God almighty for everything. He said that if there is one person he had to thank, then he would choose God because everything is possible through him. The musician went on and thanked his wife, Trisha Yearwood, who he addressed as "love of my life" along with his three daughters.
The couple shares two daughters together, August, who is 26-year-old and Taylor, who is 28-year-old. Brooks shares his third daughter Allie who is 24-year-old from his previous marriage with ex-wife, Sandy Mahl.
"I will love you beyond my time here on this planet. Country radio, you gave me this. To all those people who fill those stands," he concluded the speech and thanked everyone once again. At the beginning of this month, Brooks announced in his Inside Studio G show online that he was soon going to set the stage on fire once again, where all his band members will show up.
During the show, the singer said that if anyone notices the people who are with the bank since the start were the same people who also kick-started the band. He teased fans that watching all original members on the stage is going to be "cool." Moreover, he discussed that the tour that started back in March 2019 had been postponed because of the pandemic.
