Why Prince Charles Will Take Over Legal Guardianship Of Princes George And Louis, And Princess Charlotte
The laws that govern the royal family is very different from what regular families follow. The rich history surrounding the existence of the British monarchy has not gone through many changes in recent years.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are the next generation of royals. As the children of Prince William, they are in the direct line for succession.
But in reality, Prince William and wife, Kate Middleton, do not have full custody of their children.
As Vogue Australia reported, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are bound to the royal law created by King George I.
The law states that the reigning sovereign has legal custody of all minor grandchildren. According to royal expert Marlene Koenig, the law was put in place by King George I as he had no solid relationship with his own son, the future King George II.
The 300-year-old law was passed in 1717 and was legislated again in 1772.
The creation of the law meant that King George I had influence over every aspect of his grandchildren’s life, from education and cared to their place of abode, to the royal children's assigned governor or governess.
Until now, this law is still in effect. Koenig does imply that the Cambridge royal children are great-grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II, and it is unsure if they fall within the law’s statute.
But once heir apparent Prince Charles accedes the throne, Princes George and Louis, and Princess Charlotte will have a change of guardianship.
In Prince William and Prince Harry’s time, it was known that their legal guardian was Queen Elizabeth II. A great matter that affected their late mother, Princess Diana, in handling them.
But does this law apply to Archie Harrison? Yes, this law also applies to Archie Harrison, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle’s only child.
The 16-month-old tot, despite having no titles, is still a grandchild of the future King and a great-grandchild to the Queen.
The Sussex’s decline of the Queen’s offer to give Archie Harrison a title of Lord or Prince does not cut him off from the laws that the royals abide.
Archie Harrison will also be pushed to carry a title whether he likes it or not, as Prince Charles accedes to the throne, the little tot will rise in ranks to become sixth-in-line to the throne.
A law that only the reigning sovereign can change or attest to.
