Nick Cordero Survived Leg Amputation Due to Coronavirus Complications
Tony Award nominee Nick Cordero unfortunately, had his right leg amputated. According to his wife, this is the result of complications from coronavirus.
On April 18, according to Amanda Kloots, Cordero’s wife, they are now in day 18 of Nick’s sedation in the ICU because of coronavirus. Their plight took a turn for the worse because they received some bad news.
According to the health professionals, Nick is having issues with his right leg clotting as well as getting blood down to his toes. Because surgery is not working and blood thinners for the clotting are causing other issues, such as blood pressure issues and internal bleeding, he had to be taken off them. Without the thinners, clotting is forming once more in the right leg. The ultimate decision was to, unfortunately, amputate the leg.
Hours later, Kloots announced that his husband survived the surgery.
Two days before, there were already reports that Cordero is already getting stronger in his fight against the dreaded virus. It was Kloots herself who shared positive development. “We just [got] some good news and it’s all about small wins in the ICU,” she wrote.
According to her, the “Blue Bloods” actor was getting stronger and the professionals around him were already thinking about taking him off “ECMO” soon. This implies that he could already breathe on his own and his heart can already function without some machines in aid.
“Anything can change in an instant, but we are staying positive! HE IS HEARING US GUYS!” Kloots also said at the time.
The Broadway star recently starred in a new production, “Rock of Ages” in Hollywood. The Canadian actor has one son, 10-months-old, with Kloots, who was a former dancer. They moved to LA for Cordero’s role in this new Broadway production, but ended up being admitted to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center instead, first for pneumonia, but ultimately, because he really has Covid-19 infection.
He’s presently in the ICU for 18 days already, receiving assistance with his breathing through extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. His was of a severe battle because he has not woken up yet. In fact, Kloots had been actively raising awareness of Cordero’s fight using the heartbreaking hashtag #wakeupnick.
At present, already several prominent figures belonging to the entertainment industry have lost their lives to the coronavirus infection, such as “ET the Extraterrestrial” cinematographer, Allen Daviau as well as playwright, Terrence McNally, among others.
On the other hand, there are also those who have recovered or recovering, such as Tom Hanks, his wife Rita Wilson, and Pink.
The recovery of both Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson was not a walk in the park though. Wilson detailed how she was so ill she could not even stand at some point. Those who have recovered are symbols of hope, not just because they showed it is possible to recover, but because their antibodies can potentially be helpful in making the much-needed vaccine.
In an interview with CBS This Morning’s Gayle King, Rita Wilson claimed that she and Tom Hanks are “waiting to hear back to see if our antibodies will be helpful in creation of a vaccine.”
