Charles Barkley And Shaquille O'Neal Slammed For Controversial Comments Made On Breonna Taylor's Death, 'Police Were Just Doing There Job'
Former professional basketball players, Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal are under fire after they made controversial comments on their TNT pregame show last Thursday.
A couple of basketball players were discussing the current atmosphere surrounding the death of black paramedic, Breonna Taylor.
In the show, the two revealed that they believe that there is no reason for the police involved in Breonna Taylor’s death to be charged with murder.
Charles Barkley then compared the happening with that of George Floyd’s unfortunate death. According to Barkley the unfortunate death of Breonna Taylor is not comparable to George Floyd’s since Breonna’s death was caused by her boyfriend shooting on the police officers first.
Barkley continued by saying that the no-knock warrant exercised by the police officers involved in the shooting was legal and that they were just doing their job after being shot at first by Breonna’s boyfriend. One police officer was shot during the altercation.
O'Neal agreed with Barkley’s words and explained that although the unfortunate death of Breonna is not easy, a call to charge all three cops for murder is unjustified.
Homicide is a much better way to call the accident O’neal explained and that murder shows intent and the police officers did not show any.
Barkley then said that there is no sense in defunding the police, although a police reform and prison reform is much needed.
The two’s comments have circulated around twitter and have been slammed by many. The two were accused of defending the police for their actions.
One twitter user tweeted that both Barkley and O’neal are ‘skinfolk and not kin folk’. Another said that the two black men threw Breonna, a black woman under the bus with their comments.
A former Democrat candidate for the Virginia Senate, Herb Jones also commented on their opinion, asking that it’s okay for some other people to protect themselves but not ok for others?, pertaining to the growing racism in America.
The decision of the court to not charge the three police involved in the shooting of Breonna Taylor has sparked massive protests across America.
Protests against the police and the increasing race problem in America has been ongoing for many months now, after the unlawful death of George Floyd in police custody.
The ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement has been calling for a murder charge on the three police officers involved in the death of Breonna Taylor.
