Majority of Brits Want Prince Harry And Meghan Markle To Be Stripped Of Their Royal Titles, Poll Reveals
Since the beginning of this unusually turbulent year, the media, royal fans, and Britons have been eagle-eying every major move the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made so far. So much has altered for the royal clan in the past 6 months and the biggest shock was the departure of the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry from the family.
In all likelihood, the Britons didn’t like their step to leave the royal family in crisis as a time when they were needed the most. Though the Sussexes are taking things as – ‘let bygones be bygones,’ the residents of the United Kingdom want it to get over officially, once and for all.
As per a survey by Tatler magazine, Britons want the couple, who stepped down from the senior royal duties and quit the royal family in March this year, to be stripped of their royal titles. In other words, they should no longer be addressed as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Well, the probable reason for the fury of Britons could be the politically charged attitude of the royal couple ahead of the United States presidential election in November. The Sussex couple is being widely considered to be pro-Joe Biden due to the way they framed their message. The royal pair has picked up beef with President Donald Trump which has resulted in the President giving out obnoxious comments about them.
The Buckingham Palace immediately issued a statement distancing the royal clan from the political comments made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The statement suggests that the Prince is no longer a part of the working royal family and all of his comments were made in “personal statement.”
Tatler magazine’s research on 4,174 British adults who were polled found that 68% that the Sussex couple should be no longer be using their royal titles as they don’t represent the interest of Brits.
Additionally, a majority also said they were uncomfortable with Meghan commenting on US politics because it is apoliticism that is preferred in the royal family.
A few weeks back, social media was bombarded with posts trolling the Sussex couple for using royal titles outside the UK. The royal family has made its intentions clear that they are not going to entertain any nuance from the couple and they don’t wish to be bothered for the issues they create.
The Sussexes won't react to it, but they may not want to use the royal title anymore.
