BTS Breaks Justin Bieber's Record On Billboard Social 50
BTS just broke Justin Bieber's record of 163 weeks at No. 1 of the Billboard Social 50 chart as the Kpop idol entered their 164th week on top of the chart.
According to a report by All Kpop, BTS maintained their No. 1 position for 164 weeks, breaking the Sorry singer's reign on the Socials chart.
It was previously reported by Billboard that on the tracking week of January 23, Bieber and BTS were tied with 163 weeks on the top of the Social 50 chart. However, the Kpop idols maintained their position this week.
The Social 50 list is powered by music analytics company Next Big Sound. The company bases its rankings based on artists' presence on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Wikimedia. To determine the rank, the firm blends weekly additions of friends, fans, and followers with the artists' page views and engagement.
It can be recalled that BTS first topped the Top Social 50 chart on October 29, 2016. At the time, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber were neck and neck for the crown on the chart. However, as BTS garnered momentum on the Social 50 list, their ARMY fandom kept them at No. 1.
Their consistent performance on the chart initially brought global attention to BTS' music and earned the group their first nominations to the Billboard Music Awards. The group's popularity crashed voting servers and earned the Top Social Artist award from 2017-2019.
BTS is expected to prolong their reign on the socials chart with the high level of anticipation for the Kpop idol group's comeback album Map of the Soul: 7 which will drop on February 21.
As part of the lead up to the album's release, BTS released its single Black Swan, which entered at the Billboard Hit 100 at No. 57. The song is BTS' eighth entry to the chart.
According to date from Nielsen Music/MRC Data, Black Swan also maintained a strong position on the Digital Song Sales chart at No. 2 with 24,000 downloads as of January 23. It posted an even better performance on the World Digital Song Sales when it took the No. 1 spot.
BTS recently broke their record when it comes to pre-selling as Big Hit Entertainment reported 3.42 million pre-orders of Map of the Soul: 7 within a week the label started pre-orders. BTS' previous album Map of the Soul: Persona sold 2.6 million of pre-selling copies when it was released last year.
