Oprah Winfrey’s Biggest Fear In Life And How She Overcame It
Very few people would believe that even Oprah Winfrey could be frightened of something or someone in her life. However, the famous chat show hostess was immensely scared of balloons, a popular item of almost all parties.
While she could be terrified of balloons, Winfrey revealed an inspiring story of how she managed to overcome this phobia in her life, which had become the biggest scare in her life.
The media mogul had earlier confessed that she was tremendously scared of balloons and hated even seeing them. She even told why she regards the helium-filled rubber as her life’s biggest fear.
Winfrey once shared in an interview in 2013 that she was not fond of balloons but all her staff decided to give her a surprise on her 40th birthday, E! News reports. When she came downstairs, there were balloons all over the room.
She had to step over those balloons and had to walk through them to meet the entire audience. She was so nervous and constantly thought whether she would trip over one of them and pop it. The popular talk show hostess said the balloons reminded her of gunfire.
Incidentally, Oprah Winfrey falls under that category of persons who suffer from globophobia. People who usually have this particular condition might not be afraid of balloons but are scared of the loud noise made by this much-in-demand party decoration item when it pops.
However, Winfrey being who she is made up her mind to overcome her fear of balloons. This is precisely the reason why she made up her mind to face her phobia instead of going on an ignore mode.
She confessed during one of her promotional clips in 2013 that she succeeded in overcoming her greatest fear finally. The media mogul walked across a sea of balloons once when there was a live airing of The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Winfrey said that she had to cross all those balloons. She got over the phobia by forcing herself through all those helium-filled party decorations that day.
She said that there are certain things in life, which if one permits them, can create an obstacle to move forward. One has to simply walk through these things to overcome challenges in life.
The ex-talk show hostess even opened up about using this classic example to manage her fear to give a speech at Harvard University.
Oprah Winfrey revealed that she had made up her mind that she should face her fear head-on and walk through it, and just deliver that speech in front of her audience.
The step would have a deeper meaning to her rather than being at home and introspecting on what could have been the repercussion had she done it, Showbiz Cheat Sheet reports.
