Know Why Queen Elizabeth II Has Two Birthdays; Ben Fogle Urges People Sing on Monarch’s 94th Birthday
A TV presenter urges upon the public to sing the Happy Birthday song from their windows. After all, Queen Elizabeth II’s 94th Birthday is only a few days away. Also know why the Queen’s birthday is celebrated twice a year.
Queen Elizabeth’s 94th birthday is next week and the celebrations this year would be allegedly subtle. After all, the outbreak of the coronavirus has prohibited any kind of gatherings. A famous English broadcaster called Ben Fogle has an innovative idea to celebrate the monarch’s birthday on Apr. 21 amid the nation-wide lockdown.
Fogle has mentioned in one of his posts on Twitter that people should express their love for the Queen on her birthday by singing her Happy Birthday from their doorsteps, balconies, and windows. It will be an adorable gesture to show the Queen how much people care for them.
Although his tweet had over 7,000 likes and impressed many Twitter users, it was also criticized by some netizens, Hello! reports. He replied to his critics by tweeting that “some of the responses seem pretty mean.” Fogle also mentioned that he watched the Queen’s speech along with millions of people and thought that singing on her birthday would be a nice gesture to say thank you.
Queen Elizabeth II had addressed the nation in one of her rare speeches earlier this month through a pre-recorded message. She addressed the issue of the coronavirus pandemic in her speech. Around 24 million tuned in to watch the Queen address the nation.
The Queen was born in Apr. 21 1926 as Elizabeth Alexandra Mary. The current monarch was the first child of her father King George VI. She ascended the British throne in 1953 after the death of her father.
Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning and longest-living monarch of Britain, as well as, the world’s oldest living monarch. Every year, one can see hundreds of merrymakers waving the flag outside Buckingham Palace on Apr. 21.
They all come here to have a glimpse of the members of the British Royal Family who wave to them on the balcony for the birthday of the Queen. However, it is interesting to note that though her birthday is on Apr 21, it is celebrated in June each year.
According to Telegraph.co.uk, the celebration in June is known as “Trooping the Color” and is a moveable feast. However, Buckingham Palace has declared that this year the event will not be held in its typical form amid the coronavirus outbreak.
