'Breaking Bad': Jonathan Banks Opens Up About His Favorite Scene From The Crime Drama Series
There's no dearth of epic scenes in Breaking Bad, and it is understandably hard for a fan to choose his favorite scene from the hit crime drama TV series. Jonathan Banks, who portrays the role of Gus Fring’s top enforcer Mike Ehrmantraut has revealed his favorite scene from the series.
The actors of Breaking Bad understandably had more insight into the series because they had an opportunity to know the characters better than viewers. It is therefore hardly surprising that Banks isn't confused about his favorite scene from the show that strikes a perfect balance between comedy, drama, and heart-pounding suspense.
The spinoff prequel dubbed, Better Call Saul brings the complexity of Mike into the light, but fans respected the character even before the show existed. A former Philadelphia police officer, Ehrmantraut experiences a great tragedy in his personal life.
The corrupt officer, gets his son Matt engaged in criminal dealing such as accepting bribes, but this leads to his son's murder. Mikes holds himself responsible for Matt’s death and decides to leave Philadelphia after avenging his son's murder.
Mike starts working for drug kingpin Gus Fring and takes full advantage of his law enforcement experience. A ruthless murderer and an adept marksman, Mike becomes an important part of Gus’ team, but he doesn't like Walter White and reacts badly to Walt's attempts to take over the drug business.
His instincts prove to be correct when Walt kills Mike during the concluding season of the series in the episode "Say My Name." One of Mike's most favorite speeches on Breaking Bad takes place in the third season.
Mike tries to explain to Walt about the importance of making tough decisions. The former cop recalls a time when he gave a domestic abuser another chance to stop hurting his wife. Mike initially threatens the man with a gun but backs off when he regrets beating his wife.
“Just trying to do the right thing,” Mike says after talking about the situation, adding that the man killed his wife just two weeks later. Mike continues saying when the police officers reach the scene, it was teeming with blood and they could taste the metal.
Mike then says the moral of this story is that he shouldn't have chosen a half measure when the situation required him to go all the way. I’ll never make that mistake again. No more half measures, Walter,” he adds. Although Banks loved this speech, it wasn't his favorite scene from the show.
Banks told Entertainment Weekly that he loves the scene in the episode "Say My Name" when Jesse tells him he had decided to quit the meth business. Offering a piece of solid advice for his former enemy, Mike tells him to look out for himself. “It was so emotional, and it’s just a small scene,” Banks explained.
