Sarah Ferguson’s Decision To Skip Princess Diana’s Memorial Service Reportedly Due To Royal Family
Sarah Ferguson refused to attend Princess Diana’s memorial service 10 years after her passing due to a heartbreaking reason.
Close friends of the Duchess of York told Daily Mail that Fergie felt it wouldn’t be right for her to be there. After all, the royal family has snubbed her from other royal events since her divorce from Prince Andrew.
“She had not been on a royal guestlist for some years and it has been made clear that the family do not want her to attend royal events,” one of her friends said.
Even though Fergie did not attend Princess Diana’s memorial service in 2007, her daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were there.
Her friend also revealed that the Duchess of York held a private memorial service for the Princess of Wales at home.
According to Express, the royal family did not immediately snub Fergie from their royal events after she divorced Prince Andrew. Her first ban took place in 2002.
At that time, reports claimed that the Duchess of York skipped the Golden Jubilee celebrations because the guest list did not include her name.
In the same year, the mom of two attended the Queen Mother’s funeral but she didn’t sit alongside her ex-husband daughters. Rather, she sat elsewhere.
Prince William and Kate Middleton did not also invite Ferguson to their royal wedding in 2011. But when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in 2018, they made sure to include her as one of their guests.
Even though Fergie was present at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s nuptials, she didn’t sit with the royal family at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
Meanwhile, Fergie and Princess Diana have always been close. But just years before the Princess of Wales died, the two had a major falling out.
In her memoir, Princess Beatrice’s mom revealed how she and Princess Diana burned the phone lines from talking for very long hours before they got divorced from their respective partners.
“It was the year we first put words to the unspeakable idea that had been nudging us in the ribs for some time: that one or both of us might leave the royal family. We burned the phone wires into the night, trading secrets and jokes that no-one else would understand,” she wrote.
Also, in her book, Fergie seemingly threw shade at Princess Diana after she claimed that the late royal gave her plantar warts. This reportedly upset the Princess of Wales and became one of the reasons behind their feud.
