Kanye West Calls Out 'Modern Day Slavery' With 10 Contract Pictures
Kanye West is on fire again! The rapper is known to be quite outspoken and this time it’s the music record labels that have been called out by the musician. The 43-year-old designer and music producer posted a string of messages on his Twitter along with several images.
The rapper posted pictures that he claimed to be ten contracts, which he signed with Universal Music. He also slammed the unfair practices in the music industry in order to give no power to the artist over their own creation.
The multi-talented media personality called it modern-day slavery in his tweets. He urged lawyers around the globe to step ahead and check all his contracts signed with Universal company. The Grammy-winning rapper has been active on Twitter over a couple of weeks and has been asking the companies to get rid of these complicated contracts and make them simple.
The hip-hop artist said that the practice of the musicians and singers giving away their possession over their own work to these recording labels aren't good for the artists. West revealed the reason behind his outrage is that many performers are not able to speak up themselves and they are not able to perform on stage or tour because of the ongoing pandemic.
West explained that the big chunk of the revenue generation has been put on hold due to the global crisis. "Without the masters, you can't do anything with your own music. Someone else controls where it's played and when it's played," West tweeted. He explained that artists get only merch, tours, and fame.
The rapper claimed that the record label refused to let him know to cost of the "masters" as they are aware West can easily purchase them. However, Universal Music representatives have maintained silence on West's comments so far.
Besides being popular for his music, the rapper is also well-known for his fashion designing work and running as an independent candidate for president. West admitted that his position is unique enough to ask for required changes in the music industry contracts made for an artist.
He noted that none of the musicians will be able to earn billions in their lifetime with such contracts and he earned with his work outside the music industry. West also revealed that many artists are "not allowed" to speak against such big companies otherwise they might get canceled.
